"The real deal is always going to win in the end."
- Bill Hybels

Before we get to the author, the story must begin with my mentor and best friend - my dad. He was the true inspiration for this endeavor, and he was definitely the real deal. Dad "flunked" retirement numerous times but kept growing mentally and spiritually right until the end. At his memorial service several years ago, it occurred to me that the standing-room-only-crowd was a result of the community in which he generously participated and invested after his initial retirement when he was in his mid-sixties. Imagine having that kind of impact in the second half of life!

As for me, I am myself a dad, a grand dad x 4, a husband, a registered architect, a licensed pilot, a musician (saxophone), an artist (watercolors), a Sunday School teacher, and now attempting to be a wordsmith. I dabble in photography - everything included on this site comes from my camera unless otherwise noted.

More importantly for you to know, I have discovered that utilizing one's own life experiences to reach back and inspire the following generation just may be the closest thing to "the meaning of life" that I'm aware of. This belief is sufficiently strong to lead me to placing a myriad of ideas out here into the public realm in the sincere hope that you too will leverage your time and talents to inspire others, and find self-worth in doing so. Don't retire to quit.

Booker T. Washington once said, "There are two ways of exerting one's strength; one is pushing down, the other is pulling up." Get off the couch and start pulling!
